Explanation of Research Project:

Dr. Gregory Ciottone is conducting a study about trauma first aid and disaster preparedness at the Boston Marathon.  You are invited to participate in this study because you are a medical volunteer for the Boston Marathon in 2025.

If you choose to be in the study you will be surveyed to learn more about trauma first aid and disaster preparedness at the Boston Marathon. The survey will last about 10 minutes and will take place via an online survey on REDCap done at your own time and place. You can choose not to answer any of the questions you are asked and can stop the survey at any time.

The survey will ask questions about your age, medical experience, and other demographics.

Voluntariness

Participation in this study is voluntary. You can skip any questions that you do not want to answer. Even if you start the survey or simulation, you are not required to complete it, although partial responses will be saved. You can stop at any time.

Confidentiality, Risks and Benefits:

All your answers will be anonymous, and no one will be able to link your answers back to you. Please do not include your name or other information that could be used to identify you in your responses.

Your participation would offer valuable information that will help the research team assess essential components of trauma first aid preparedness at mass gatherings. There is no direct benefit to you personally from participating in this research.

There are no risks to your employment. This research involves asking about patients that have suffered traumatic injuries and descriptions of those injuries. These descriptions may trigger feelings of psychosocial stress. If you don’t feel comfortable with traumatic injury descriptions or feel that this may bring up past memories or feelings for you, please do not participate in this research.
